The Challenge
A UK utility site was in the process of installing an AC-fed device but faced a significant challenge with space constraints. The site required a power distribution unit (PDU) that could efficiently manage multiple battery strings while supporting both DC and AC loads. A tailored solution was needed to integrate seamlessly with the existing power infrastructure while maximising space efficiency.
The Solution
Alan Campbell Engineering Services (ACES) was approached to design a compact and efficient PDU that could meet the site’s unique requirements. The team at ACES engineered a bespoke PDU that, when fed from a Sierra 10 system, would:
•Support five strings of batteries, ensuring reliable backup power.
•Provide a 6A DC load to support essential operations.
•Deliver a 1A AC load to power critical devices.
This tailored approach allowed for optimal power distribution while maintaining a compact footprint, crucial for the utility site’s limited space.
The Outcome
The custom-designed PDU from ACES provided a robust and space-saving power distribution solution. By integrating seamlessly with the Sierra 10 system, the unit effectively managed power requirements, ensuring operational reliability. The solution not only met the utility site’s immediate needs but also provided a scalable approach for future expansions. Through innovative engineering and expert design, ACES delivered a practical, efficient, and future-proof power management solution tailored to the specific needs of the UK utility sector.
